Coyotes’ Scottie Upshall, Jeff Carter, Mike Smith get a chance to start at center in preseason opener

On Friday, the Arizona Coyotes and Central Michigan University will have a new look starting with their preseason opener.

The Coyotes will be without forward Scottie Upscalas, who was diagnosed with cancer on Monday.

Upscallyas has been sidelined for the past few weeks due to the illness, and is expected to miss several weeks.

In his place, the Coyotes are hoping to see veteran forward Mike Smith start for the team in his first preseason game.

Smith, who is in his second season with the Coyotes, has already started the preseason, with four goals and six assists in six games.

“Mike is our No. 1 goalie, but he’s also a really good offensive defenseman,” Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said.

He’s a good hockey player. “

He’s a great leader, so he’s a big part of our core.

He’s a good hockey player.

I think he’s going to make an impact, but I think it’s a chance for him to step into his first game.”

Tippetts also mentioned that forward Andrew Cogliano will be playing against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday.

Coglico was a healthy scratch on Friday night against the Buffalo Sabres because of illness.

“I think that’s going on,” Tippets said.

The team has yet to confirm any injuries with the new lineup.
