New book: The central intelligence issue of 2017

New book, The Central Intelligence Issue of 2017: The Rise of the Deep State, by former CIA director James Woolsey, is a sweeping account of the rise of the deep state.

In it, Woolsey details how the CIA was transformed into the NSA, and how the Deep Government has infiltrated every level of American government from Congress to the courts. 

The book is the culmination of a series of interviews with former officials and intelligence professionals who have detailed how the government’s intelligence agencies have infiltrated every branch of American life, and in particular the U.S. Capitol and the White House.

Author James Woolson is a retired CIA officer who was a senior adviser to President Donald Trump and a former CIA officer and head of the agency’s global covert operations branch, the Counterterrorism Center (CTC).

Woolsey was an advisor to both Republican and Democratic presidents.

Woolson served as CIA director under George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005, and as deputy CIA director from 2006 to 2008.

He also served as deputy director of the National Counterterrorism Centre from 2009 to 2012.

Woolsey served as the head of CIA’s clandestine services from 2013 to 2017, when he resigned to run for Senate in Louisiana.

 Woolson was previously the deputy CIA assistant director for international operations from 2016 to 2018.
